If you have moved to Anchorage, Ak and could give me advice about moving there, what would be the best advice?

Please don't just say great place or don't. Tell me why. I will appreciate any answers and make sure to label a best answer.

Thanks alot...If you have moved to Anchorage, Ak and could give me advice about moving there, what would be the best advice?
You will want a four wheel drive vehicle. Preferablly a diesel pick-up, then you can make a few extra bucks plowing snow. I would live in the Eagle River, Palmer or Wasilla area. Property prices will be lower as will taxes.

Be prepared with a block and battery heater for all your vehicles. A remote start is nice so you can warm your vehicles up prior to driving it.

If you fish, you can cut you costs by doing a little of that. Hunting, great, can you imagine feasting on a 2,000 pound moose?

Stay away from Mountain View and Muldoon Road. At least that's what I was told last year while I was in Anchorage for 2 months. It seems that is where the gang activity is centered. With police work, that will change, they were looking at it when we left in September.

I almost forgot, since you will be new to Alaska you will need to pick-up a copy of the Milepost. This is a book detailing the drive from the US to Alaska along with everything that is going on at every milemarker on every major road to Dawson Creek, BC. Then every side road along the Alaskan Highway to Alaska. After that, most every thing you will want to see or do while in Alaska, by road and the mile marker on that road. Pick-up your copy at www.milepost.com or like we did at amazon.com for half price.

Have fun, I wish I was going with you.
