Can you help with housing advice in the uk?

my friend is married with 6 kids and is stuck in a 2 bedroom council house. the council won't move him. he has no rent arrears, nothing!! every 2 weeks he has to bid on a property in a magazine called locata. he is a band b. he has been on this locata (that's how it is spelt) now for approx 2 years. only once at the beginning a property came up to bid on but he didin't make the top 20 on the list. he is entitled to a 4/5 bedroom house. since that last property came up, no more properties for his requirements have been coming up for him to bid on. is there a way out? can a judge at a court over rule a council to house him? is there ANYTHING he can do? citizen advice cannot help as he has tried them. this is causing his family to split up and he will take 3 kids and his wife 3 kids. obviousley they don't want to do this as he loves his family so much, but the stress is going to end up doing this. so much for labour family values who want to keep familys together said tony blair. Can you help with housing advice in the uk?
They could buy a house why does anyone in this day and age have 6 kids anyway!!Can you help with housing advice in the uk?
From doing a search of 'Locata' (I wonder what bird brain in the council thought that stupid name up, you can tell it is being done in favour of people who don't speak good English) it is in Ealing.

All London boroughs are in very high demand due to the high influx of immigrants.

I would contact your local MP. Steve Pound is the MP for Ealing North. He is Labour hence will prove uninterested/unwilling/won't reply because he is in office and can't be bothered with constituents concerns.

Go to the opposition would be MP, be it Tory/LibDem and enlist their help. You will find they fight much harder because they want your vote, those that have it can't be bothered.

Try the web site www.homeswap.com for a mutual exchange. Your local housing office will hold the registers of people who want to move into your area and what size accommodation they have.

A lot of people downsize as they get older but I must stress that 5 bed council houses are always in high demand in all areas. Good luck.
He could maybe apply to housing associations while waiting on this locata. No one can stop him from applying anywhere! I have to say though 4 to 5 bedrooms houses are in the minority nowadays. Another idea would be to be on the Council's swap? There could be people stuck with a house too large for them now, might like to move to something smaller like a two bedroom house? Surely the Council couldn't object to that.
i really dont know the answer to this...

I am in the same situation

I think its poor what they are doing to this family

How do they expect a family of 6 to live in two bedrooms

the council should have moved them long time ago.

i hope something works out for them.

there must be some scheme where they can part buy part rent a house,

Or a right to buy

or have they considered buying a house

gud luk
I endorse those who say to go to your MP. Another line of attack might be Shelter - I believe they have caseworkers in most areas.
Yes he must request a meeting with the housing officer for his area and state his case. He can also write to his Local MP ,etc but again must be able to state his case. If this is causing him and his wife , children, stress , depression then if he could get back up from his doctor this would help immensely. Just a simple letter from his doctor would be sufficient.

I don't know what area he is in but where i am there is a great shortage of 4/5 bedroom houses. He will be unable to move into band A because he is not homeless, disabled, etc but the above action will help.

I am a single mother , who works full time, and i was in a flat until my baby was 6 months old. I did all of the above and have been moved to a 3 bedroom house. It can take years to obtain a house through this new bidding system but in the meantime you are still on a waiting list also. This is not the only way that you'll get a council house , it's just another option for people. He hasn't put himself in this situation though has he? If this is his 2nd relationship and they have chosen to come together as one family in one house then they do not look kindly on that as he has intentionally put himself into this situation. Anyway , good luck.
Go to your local councillor/MP they must hold a surgery (details will be in local newspaper or you can find out through local council), the council will have to help you - go in person to see your MP and take a letter with you so that he/she is getting it both barrels - they will surely help you. Of course it will be difficult as they probably dont have a lot of 4/5 bed houses but you are entitled to one as this is severe overcrowding 6 kids in one bedroom is awful - demand help and tell your MP you will be taking this to the local newspaper - I hope you will get the help you so obviously need!!!
