Attention OFW, Seamen and Everyone who has experience in Philippine Airports, can you give me an advice?

I bought a 32'; flat screen TV abroad, and plan to carry the box to the airport like a regular luggage..

I understand I have to pay the airline because it's oversize, I also carry a luggage but both of them are within the allowed weight. Will I have problem at the airport in the Philippines, if I have paid the penalty and get cleared from my country of origin.Attention OFW, Seamen and Everyone who has experience in Philippine Airports, can you give me an advice?
Do you mean, you carry the box with the TV inside? If this is what you mean, I dont think the airline would allow you.

My personal experience with PAL, Cathay Pacific and China Airlines were the following.

1. Some airlines are too strict, while other are lenient

2. SOP%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Hand carry luggage are subject to its weight, height limit.

Therefore, if you said its over sized, its not going to be allowed in the

cabin. Same as baby buggy (stroller, pram) airline staff collect it upon boarding time.

3. Hand luggage should fit the compartment overhead

and/or under the seat

4. Electrical appliances are labeled as ';FRAGILE'; and if you check

it in, you will be requested to pay the tax. Declare it as a used item instead, remove all indications that its newly bought.

5. ';fragile'; items are accepted but if as a checked in luggage, you are required to sign a ';waiver';.

6. Check or inquire with the airline weeks before your actual departure

date.

Some airports have different rules. These are lame examples :(

I flew to Taipei and they always get my bottled water, whether you tell them its for the baby, whereas in Japan they allow the water as long as its for the toddlers consumption.

In the Philippines, they confiscate the Cosmetics while in Japan and Taipei those items are ignored.Attention OFW, Seamen and Everyone who has experience in Philippine Airports, can you give me an advice?
There is a weight charge on your hand carry and your luggage and. A TV is too fragile to carry around even on regular luggage. Chances are, it will get damage via transport.

Invest in just buying a TV in the Philippines instead

Not to mention the power volatge of the Philippines is 220V wich is different from appliances you buy abroad ( 110V)
then your problem is with the Customs. they will ask for the receipt of your purchase and determine if you will be taxed. but the rule is, any personal effects or items of purely personal use should not be taxed unless, you are carrying 3 lcd's. if you are willing to risk the handling and transport of this airline and our airport, then go ahead.

fyi, a 32'; panasonic lcd (HD ready/compliant) at abenson's cost only about Php26K, on sale this week.
First check with the airline they may not allow “odd” sized or over sized baggage. I wouldn’t take a wide screen on an airplane myself the way they handle baggage it will be damaged unless you packaged it very carefully. I fly often and watch those guys throw baggage around like sacks of trash.

As you know Philippine Customs may charge duty.

I suggest you ship it via balikbayan box. No duty and the cost would be under $100.00.
There is an old saying of the airlines ';don't put anything in the check in that you do not want to lose';.

Here in the Philippines always be prepared to pay extra simply because you are a foreigner %26amp; have a lot of money. LOL
plus paying the duty will beat u up also pare, duty one foreign electronic is 100% i think, so be prepared to pay equal tax to the original price, just buy a tv locally, it will be just as good, and u don't have to have a converter.
Last December 2006 I saw plenty of Filipinos bringing there appliances back to PH, i guess that would be OK.
