Always do your best. Its really that simple and we were taught it when we were in elementary school, but it's an easy one to forget.
It's kind of hard to give the answer to this, because it all depends how the others will take it! It always has to do with the other's attitude

I learned that I had a bad habit of deflecting the credit to someone else and that it sounded like I was just throwing the compliment back in the person's face.

Don't allow anyone in your life who doesn't improve it. I dealt with cheating boyfriends, gossiping girl friends, a bad parent... Sometimes you just have to cut people out of your life who are poisoning it, and move on.
There will always be someone who disagrees with you...There will always be someone who will want to bring you down but you can't let that get in the way of reaching your dreams....just hold your head up high and shoulder back
