LOL Good question. Probably because either they don't know and don't want to sound stupid, so they tell you it's simply ';your'; decision, or if you are going to do something they think is dumb or wrong, instead of saying ';you shouldn't'; or ';that's stupid';, they would say, ';well, it's up to you.....'; to avoid putting you down or tarnishing your dreams.Why do people thing that telling you ';its up to you'; is good advice?
It depends on how you word your question! If you say ' do you think I should....' then people are more likely to react like this, because they realise that you have responsibility to make a decision yourself.





If you are more specific, such as ' I've been thinking about making a choice between [this] and [that], I've found out this information, but what's still worrying me now is this- I'd just like to discuss this with you'- people would realise you are in charge but you'd just like to talk it over with someone.





The other important thing is to ask the right people! As has already been said, if you ask someone who doesn't have the knowledge or experience to offer advice on that particular subject, then what do you expect- go find someone who does have knowledge and ask them!
Because in the long run it really is up to you what you do in any given situation.





I am always more than happy to give advise but am not so egotistical to think that eveyone takes it to the bank.





Any decision you make is yours to own even when you do take anothers advise because that too, was your decision.
at the end of the day, for decisions they made, the responsibility rests on their shoulders, not anyone else.

Usually when a person asks for my opinion and I am at a loss what to say or thing, that's the answer I give. So yeah, you're right lol.
